The Band was founded by Bishop Simon Mabe Rakomane in 1975. It was through the assistance of his elder son Mr.Steven Rakomane who worked at the Bophuthatswana Army Band, that the Band it’s professional knowledge, for he Steven was an employee at the Army in its music department.
St Johns Kagiso Band is a youthful oriented band dedicated on empowering youth and young adults through Musical excellence. We use music as a tool to teach the young commitment, discipline and this is very useful in taking them off the streets, We specialize mainly in brass Instruments i.e.: Trumpets, Trombones, Euphoniums, French Horns, Baritone Horns, Alto Horns and Tubas
We also specialize in Wood Wind Instruments i.e.: Soprano Saxophones, Alto Saxophones Tenor Saxophones and Clarinets. On the percussion side we have Bass Drum, Matching Snare Drum, Cymbals and Tambourines.
St Johns Kagiso Band is not a music academy, however given enough resources we would like to open a music school. We have the ability to teach musicians from grass root level and place them in the band. We are passionate about saving the youth and keeping them from involvement in things that could easily destroy their lives. We encourage them not to take drugs, alcohol and even committing criminal activities.
